Mr. Alvin Erith “Buddy” Harper, Jr. was a remarkable man whose life was filled with love, dedication, and a strong commitment to his family. He passed away peacefully at his residence on November 24, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Buddy was born April 22, 1937 in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Rev. Alvin Erith Harper, Sr., and Irene Stafford Harper.
Buddy began his professional career as an engine inspector for Delta Airlines where he later retired. His work at Delta Airlines allowed him to showcase his meticulous nature and attention to detail. As a perfectionist, he took great pride in ensuring that each aircraft he inspected met the highest safety standards. Buddy‘s commitment to excellence was recognized by his colleagues and superiors alike.
During his youth, Buddy served in the United States Navy as a proud and honorable member. His time in the Navy instilled in him values of loyalty, duty, and service to others, traits that would define him throughout his life.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Buddy was a man of many interests and hobbies. He had an unmatched artistic flair that transcended various mediums. His talent for building and fitting objects was truly impressive; he could construct anything from dollhouses to rocking horses and furniture.
Amongst his favorite pastimes were classic cars and traveling. Buddy had an insatiable curiosity for exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. His adventurous spirit led him on countless journeys around the globe, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Buddy was loved by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. His kind and gentle nature endeared him to everyone he met, forming lasting friendships and leaving an indelible mark on their lives. He possessed a vast knowledge that he willingly shared, eager to engage in meaningful conversations and learn from others.
Buddy is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Fran Underwood Harper; his daughter and son-in-law, Christian and Vince Thompson; his son and son-in-law, Darren and Brandon Harper. His grandchildren, Sarah Isabel (Willis) Lott and Vincent Wyatt Thompson, brought immense joy into his life. His great-grandchild, Waylon Vince Lott, continued to sow the seeds of love and happiness for generations to come. His sisters, Peggy Walker and Linda Bradley. Their bond as siblings was unbreakable, a testament to the strength of family ties.
The loss of Buddy is deeply felt by all those who knew him. However, we find solace in the memories he left behind, the impact he made on our lives, and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind.
