Billy Downs

William Kelvin “Billy” Downs, 59, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors. The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. at Northside Baptist Church in Tifton, GA.

Born October 25, 1963, in Ashburn, GA. He is preceded in death by his father, William Ernest Downs, Sr. and his mother Betty Joyce Burch Downs. a brother and a sister, Bridget Melissa Will.

Billy was owner/operator of Billy Downs Construction. He was very knowledgeable about all things construction-related and loved what he did. He had high standards and expected the same from anyone he brought to the job.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle. You could almost always find him several nights a week playing in his local pool league at Little Whisky River in Albany. He had his favorites and if he misses anything after passing, many of his friends there will be at the top of the list. 

He spent a fair amount of time at 3 Squares diner in Sylvester. He had written his name on the bottom of a couple of the chairs during a renovation when it was the Huddle House years back. 

He stood his ground in spite of himself sometimes, but he had a heart of gold. Most people would say that "If he liked you, you knew it. And if he didn't like you, you knew that too." He spoke his mind. He helped others when they needed it. It didn't matter if it was clearing trees after a storm, loaning a few dollars till payday, or just buying a meal. Above all, the one thing that was most desired by him was to have a family. Along the way, he met people he would claim as kin from Key West to Colorado. 

Billy is survived by three sisters, Susan German of Tifton, GA, Sheila Downs of Augusta, GA, and Melody Downs of Cordele, GA, six nephews and three nieces. He also leaves behind a multitude of friends and family that will miss him immensely.
