Cathy Hughes Lord

Cathy Hughes Lord, a cherished member of the Tifton community and a devoted homemaker, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the residence of her son Tim Sumner and his wife Janet in Tifton, Georgia. Born on June 28, 1942, in Bartow County, Cartersville, Georgia. Cathy’s life was marked by love, dedication, and a deep commitment to her family and faith.

A visitation will be held at Albritton Funeral Directors on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 9:30 A.M.- 10:30 A.M. in the chapel. The graveside service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at Tift Memorial Gardens with Dr. Clark Harden officiating.

Cathy spent much of her life as a homemaker, creating a warm and nurturing environment for those she loved. In her younger years, she worked as a waitress at the Tifton Shoney’s, where her friendly spirit and kindness left a lasting impression on many. Cathy lived most of her life in Tifton and she embraced the joys of her faith, family and community.

She was a wonderful grandmother who treasured visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her affection for animals, especially her beloved dogs, reflected her gentle and caring nature. Cathy found joy in traveling alongside her late husband, Emmett Ray Lord, and had a fondness for watching and shopping on the QVC Television show. Among her many talents, she was skilled at crocheting blankets and enjoyed dressing elegantly, often showcasing her jewelry with pride.

A proud member of Brighton Road Baptist Church, Cathy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her involvement in the church community was a source of comfort and strength, and she held this fellowship close to her heart.

Cathy is survived by her son, Tim Sumner, and his wife, Janet, who provided loving care in her final days. She is also survived by her granddaughter Pam Johnson and her husband Zay, and her grandson, Adam Sumner along with her great grandchildren, Niyah Roberson, Landon Roberson, Logan Roberson, J'mond Johnson, and Zari Johnson. She was preceded in death by the mother who lovingly adopted her, Gertrude Hightower Hughes, beloved husband, Emmett Ray Lord, and her son, William Greg Sumner.

Family, friends, and all who knew Cathy are invited to pay their respects during a visitation held on April 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Albritton Funeral Directors, 1020 Tift Ave N., Tifton, Georgia. Following visitation, a graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Tift Memorial Gardens, 1754 U.S. 82, Tifton, Georgia, to honor and celebrate her life.

Cathy Hughes Lord’s legacy is one of unconditional love, resilience, and grace. Her memory will continue to be a blessing to her family and all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Albritton Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
