He was born, the 8th of 10 children, on December 12, 1939 to Thomas Howard Sr. and Ofelon Tawzer. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Spradlin, on August 21, 1960. They shared 57 years of marriage before her passing on March 1, 2018.
Mr. Tawzer lived a life of service to others beginning with his time of service in the Air Force. During his career, he worked at the Marine Base in Albany. Following his retirement, he began working at T & S Electric Motors. During his 30 years at T & S, he formed many lifelong friendships. He retired again in 2017 to care for Shirley as her health declined.
Mr. Tawzer was a devout Christian man. He lived his life serving his Lord and Savior and setting the example for his family and others to follow. He loved his church family and served as Deacon of Wayside Baptist Church from 1978 until his health began declining from a stroke in March 2022. Over the years, he taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Wednesday night youth classes, and served as church Treasurer. He loved gospel music and sang for many years in the choir. One last memory his family will cherish was sitting around the piano while Mandy played and he sang “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Loves Me” with his great-grandchildren.
Mr. Tawzer was a lifetime supporter of 4H and FFA. He and Shirley spent many years ringside cheering on their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at livestock shows. He was awarded supporter of the year of the Tift County Livestock Association in 2000. He played a vital role establishing the Association and the construction of Tift County Multipurpose Livestock Building. In 2007, he and Shirley received the Supporter of the Year award from Tift County Fall Livestock Show, and in 2018, he received the first Lifetime Achievement Award of the Tift County Fall Livestock Show. Another hobby he had was showing off his grilling skills as he fed many families across the state at the Georgia Junior National Livestock Show every February.
Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-laws: TH and Evelyn Tawzer, Donald and Marie Tawzer, sisters and brothers-in-laws Juanita Tawzer, Carol and Elbert McBrayer, Elizabeth and Glenn McBrayer, brothers-in-laws Donnie and Nadine Spradlin, Bill Hall, and sister-in-law Carolyn Tawzer.
He leaves behind a family who is forever grateful for his love and guidance. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Tubby and Kim Tawzer, daughter and son-in-law Lydia and GJ Harrell; grandchildren: Mandy and Josh Alley, Brandon and Allie White, Kelly and Evan Clark, Glynn and Haley Tawzer, and Adam and Victoria Tawzer; great-grandchildren Reid and Nora Taylor White, Caden and Cailan Alley, Parker, Ryder, and Baylor Clark, and Cole and Maddie Tawzer; brothers and sisters Harold and Maggie Tawzer, Harmon and Juanita Tawzer, Coy Tawzer, and Ruth Hall; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Hardin and Bonnie Hester; special friends Timmy White, Fred, Tresa, and Bailey Rayfield and Charley Green; as well as his fur babies Sugar and Buddy.
If you’d like to honor Glynn, join the family by wearing red to his service because he reminded us, he was “covered by the blood!’ Rest easy Pa, you have finally made it home.
