Christopher Felton Rutland

Christopher “Chris” Felton Rutland, “Pappy” born on April 21, 1970, in Tifton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a beloved member of his community and dedicated family man, known for his kindness and willingness to help others.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Rutland Family Cemetery with Rev. Joe Crews officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.

Honorary pallbearers will be fellow Target employees.

Christopher had a fulfilling career as a facility mechanic at the Target Distribution Center, where he was respected by his colleagues and known for his work ethic. Outside of work, he was passionate about farming, often spending time alongside the Rutland and Welch families. His love for adventure shone through in his hobbies; he found joy in mountain climbing, riding his Harley, kayaking, and exploring the beach. An avid rock hound and woodturner, he embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. His fondness for Mountain Dew was a small yet spirited part of his character.

A devoted father and grandfather, Christopher treasured the moments spent playing with his grandchildren. He was known as Pappy, a title that embodied his loving spirit and the joy he found in family. His heart of gold and joyful demeanor left a lasting imprint on all who knew him.

Christopher is survived by his children, Brittany Rutland and Jessica Rutland; his mother, Patricia Marilyn Boomer Rutland; his stepchildren, Laura Merritt and Matthew Cooper; his wife of eighteen years, Connie Jean Welch; his grandchildren, Olivia Wortham, Charlotte Foe, Ellie May Wilson, Violet Nipper, Daisy Robinson, Carly Robinson, and Emmie Reese Merritt; his sister, Kelly Roets; and his brothers, David Rutland and his wife, Cindy, and Tim Rutland and his wife, Stephanie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Felton Lee Rutland, and his brother-in-law, Bill Roets.

Christopher Felton Rutland will be dearly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
