Clara Marie Chambers

Mrs. Clara Marie Chambers, 85, of Tifton passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Legacy Village Assisted Living Center of Tifton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Tifton Ridge Avenue Church of Christ.  Mr. Brooks Boyd and Mr. Larry Stewart will be in charge of the service, with a eulogy given by her son, Harold Chambers. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Methodist Church at a later date.

Mrs. Chambers was born on October 5, 1933 in Rome, Georgia to the late Beecher and Clara Hyde Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph O Chambers, to whom she was married for sixty-three years at his death in September 2013, and her daughter Sherrye Chambers.

Mrs. Chambers worked in education, various businesses and retired from Union Camp.  She was an active member of Ridge Avenue Church of Christ since 1966, serving as a Sunday school teacher and very active in ladies’ activities.  She was employed as an administrative assistant with the Tift County School system and later ABAC. She also worked for Harper Enterprises and the Tift County Sheriff’s Department.  Mrs. Chambers was a graduate of Rome High School and Massey Business College in Atlanta. She and her husband spent much time in Rome and Mrs. Marie loved her birthplace.

Survivors of Mrs. Chambers include two sons and two daughters-in-law Harold and Mary Chambers of Tifton and Randall and Cheryl Chambers of Braselton, Georgia, three grandchildren Kate Chambers, Randy Chambers and Georgia Chambers and special friends, Ann Dow, Joyce Bailey and Sheen Mitchell.

Flowers accepted or donations can be made to Rainbow Omega at 100 Hope Drive, Eastaboga, AL 36260, a community for adults with disabilities.
