Mr. Daniel William “Frank” Maloy, Jr., 93 of Tifton, passed away on August 6, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors on Monday, August 10th at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Larry Layfield officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. in the Chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Rhine, GA.
Mr. Maloy was born January 2, 1927 in Milan, Georgia to the late Dr. Daniel W. F. Maloy, Sr and Clara Jeanette Bullington Maloy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph T. Maloy who died August 26, 2005 and Grooms Kingsbury Maloy who died in World War II.
Mr. Frank was of the Baptist faith, and had lived in Tifton since 1988, moving from Macon where he had lived for many years. He was an excellent musician and was best known for playing the fiddle, but he was also accomplished with the mandolin, bass guitar and saxophone. Mr. Maloy was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as the Atlanta Society of Entertainers. He was a recipient of the Key to the City of Nashville, Georgia. Mr. Frank played with the Dave Mercer Band in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. He was also the last surviving member of the Charlie Dawdy and the Prairie Boys Band in the 1950’s. He played at the DAV in Macon for many years. There are 159 counties in Georgia, and Mr. Frank wrote a fiddle tune for each. These tunes were published in a book. Music was always the center of his life, and he devoted himself to the musical entertainment of others.
Mr. Maloy is survived by his niece, Erin Maloy Griner of Nashville; great-nephews Joey Griner and his wife Breanna and Jeron Griner all of Nashville; great great-niece and nephew Kendyll and Kyson Griner.
