Dorothy Jane (Seaver) Moorhead

Dorothy Jane Moorhead, 94, of Tifton, GA died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Legacy Village in Tifton.

Mrs. Moorhead was born on March 25, 1924 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Douglas B. and Wilma (Curtis) Seaver. A 1942 graduate of Rock Island High School, she was employed during WWII at Rock Island Arsenal where she met future husband, John V. Moorhead of Bluegrass, IA. They married on September 30, 1945 and in 1946 moved to Louisville, KY where John was a manager at International Harvester until retiring in 1976.

Dorothy was a homemaker and was employed as administrative assistant for several firms in Louisville. She and John moved to Bradenton, FL in 1978 and were active in Palma Sola Bay Yacht Club and Palma Sola Golf Club until relocating to Tifton, GA in 1998.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001 and by both parents. Dorothy loved her family and her church family at First Presbyterian Church in Tifton. She enjoyed working outdoors, daily playing “pick up” gathering pine cones that fell from many trees in her yard and caring for her animals.

Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, David and Dorothy M. Moorhead and grandson Brandon Moorhead all of Tifton; brother and sister-in law William and Mary Ann Seaver, Milan, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been accorded with private disposition of cremains at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Tifton, 217 N. Park Ave., Tifton, Ga. 31794 or the Tifton-Tift County Animal Shelter, 278 Georgia Hwy 125 S, Tifton, Ga. 31794.

On Sunday, January 20, 2019, a brief memorial service and prayer over the ashes will follow the 11 am service at Tifton’s First Presbyterian Church.  After the service, the family will join the congregation for a meal at the church fellowship hall. Friends are welcome to attend.
