Douglas Howard Welch, affectionately known as Doug, passed away on May 12, 2026, at his residence in Tifton, Georgia. Born in Blountstown, Florida, on March 12, 1961, Doug lived a life marked by dedication, service, and warmth that touched all who knew him.
No formal service will be held at this time.
Doug was a proud high school graduate and furthered his education by earning an associate degree from ABAC, demonstrating his commitment to personal growth and learning. His sense of duty extended into his career as he honorably served eleven years in the United States Army where he loved driving the tanks. This period of military service reflected his steadfast patriotism and dedication to his country, qualities that remained a defining aspect of his life.
Beyond his professional and academic accomplishments, Doug cherished the simple joys of life, particularly his love for fishing and his daily Bible devotions. This pastime not only brought him peace and happiness but also allowed him moments of reflection and connection with nature. One of his favorite past times was feeding the neighborhood stray animals.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Vickie Lynn Giddens Welch, whose partnership and support were a source of strength throughout his life. He was a devoted father to his children, Tiffany Noel Welch and Veleka Lynn Rowell and his son-in-law, Trey Rowell, who carry forward his legacy of love and resilience.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Welch and Annie Bell Gaskins Welch, who no doubt influenced the values and character Doug embodied throughout his life.
Doug’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, yet his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him. His life was a testament to service, family devotion, and the appreciation of life’s simple pleasures.
We honor Doug’s memory with respect and gratitude for the life he lived and the lasting impact he made on those around him.
