Evelyn NeSmith

Evelyn Abney NeSmith, 74, born Evelyn Juanita Abney, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at her daughter's home in Graniteville, South Carolina where she had lived past nine years. She was born December 20, 1951 in Leesburg, Florida to the late Dewey Abney and Mildred Hutson Abney.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Tifton, located on Magnolia Drive, Tifton, Georgia 31794 with Mr. Guy Haynes officiating.

Evelyn graduated from Berrien County High School in 1970. Over the years, she built a working life that included fifteen years as a cosmetologist, and she also worked in retail sales. She was known for the simple pleasures that brought her happiness, especially fishing in Florida and traveling to the mountains.

A woman of faith, Evelyn was a member of Enigma Methodist Church. Her church life meant a great deal to her, and she especially enjoyed working with children and youth. Those who knew her will remember a life rooted in family, faith, and the familiar community she called home for so many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace NeSmith; her brothers, Tom Abney, Jim Abney and Bill Abney.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy and daughter-in-law, Katie Gebhardt of Graniteville, South Carolina. She is also survived by her sister, Joyann Lindsey, and her husband, Ted Lindsey; and her sisters-in-law, Jan Abney and Jeannie Abney and numerous nieces and nephews. May her memory remain a source of comfort to those who loved her and knew her well.
