Mr. Thompson's journey included brave service in the United States Navy during which he helped deliver the first troops on the beaches of Normandy from the USS Thomas Jefferson. His commitment to his country was evident throughout his life.

In addition to his military service, Mr. Thompson's pride and joy were his family. He cherished his late wife, Ila "Jean" Connell Thompson, with whom he shared seventy-two beautiful years. Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by his son, Rocky Thompson, and grandsons Andrew Thompson and Neal Thompson.

Grateful for the love and memories they shared are Mr. Thompson's surviving family: six sons and daughters-in-law - Grady Jr. and Sarah Thompson, Melvin and Pam Thompson, Danny and Pat Thompson, Jimmy and Faye Thompson, Jack and Debbie Thompson, Clyde and Lisa Thompson; two daughters and sons-in-law - Martha and Happ Flohe, Ginger and Gerald Jordan; as well as daughter-in-law Susan Fresh Thompson.

Mr. Thompson leaves behind a legacy that continues through twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren. His kindness, dedication to family, and love for the land will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Thompson's life exemplified hard work, faith, love for family, and devotion to country. He enjoyed providing show pigs for 4-H and FFA children and fishing in his spare time so he could have fish fry’s for his family and church. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

A special thanks to the ICU nursing staff at TRMC for the exceptional care given to him and kindness shown to Mr. Thompson’s family during his stay.
