Mr. Hugh Noel Lewis, 96, a longtime resident of Tifton, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Oakridge Cemetery on Wednesday, December 18th at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating.
Mr. Lewis was born April 18, 1923 in Jasper County, Georgia to the late Henry Grady Lewis and Annie Maude McCullough Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Bryant Lewis to whom he was married for sixty-five years at her death on March 29, 2018; two brothers and one sister. Mr. Lewis was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton, where he was a very active working with the youth department. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during WWII where he was a "belly gunner" on B-24 airplanes in the European Theatre. Mr. Lewis was retired from Plant Telephone Company after eighteen years. His favorite activities were fishing and square dancing. While living in Tifton, he was a member of the Tifton Lions Club and he served on the Tift County Board of Elections.
Mr. Lewis is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Fenton W. “Freddy” Nash, Jr. and Lenora Nash of Albany; one grandson, Fenton W. Nash, III and Dana Lee Nash, of Lee County, Georgia; one sister Martha Robertson of Mansfield, Georgia along with several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Tifton, 107 West 12th Street, Tifton, Georgia, 31794.
