James "Bob" Robert McDuffie, born March 24, 1938, passed away on August 21, 2026, leaving behind a cherished legacy defined by devotion to family, lifelong curiosity, and steadfast dedication to his community. Born and raised on a farm n Irwin County, Georgia, Bob was forever proud of the place he called home, a sentiment that guided his life choices and relationships.
Bob was a 1956 graduate of Irwin County High School and continued his education at Southern Tech Institute, earning an Associate’s degree in engineering. In his early years, he served in the Georgia Army Reserves, learning the values of discipline and responsibility that shaped his professional and personal life.
For thirty years, Bob worked as a Civil and Right of Way Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation, dedicating himself to improving the infrastructure of his beloved state. His career was marked by a commitment to integrity and hard work, traits that earned him the respect and friendship of his colleagues and community. Upon retirement, Bob and his wife opened an antique store in Irwinville, Georgia, where their shared appreciation for history and craftsmanship blossomed into a well-loved local establishment.
Bob’s friends and family knew him as a passionate collector, particularly of antiques and Native American artifacts. Searching for arrowheads and unique finds was more than a hobby—it was a connection to the past and the land he so dearly loved. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he often shared the stories of his discoveries with those around him.
Above all, Bob was a devoted family man. He took great pride in raising his children, serving as a Boy Scout leader, coaching baseball, and remaining active in church. These roles allowed him to nurture, shape, and support future generations, instilling in them the values that were his own: honor, perseverance, and compassion.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jeffrey Alan McDuffie (Rebecca), David Nathan McDuffie; his daughters, Susan Benson (Jimmy) and Charlotte Murphy (James). The legacy of his love continues through his grandchildren: Prue Benson, Patrick Murphy, Erin McDuffie, Ryan Murphy, Katherine McDuffie, Juliet Murphy, his step-sons, Tony Alan Fountain, and Robert Scott Fountain, Sr. and his step grandchildren, Tiffany Lynn Summers, Robert Scott Fountain, Jr. as well as his step great-grandchildren, Haylee Summers, Riylee Shay Fountain, and Greyson Fountain.
