James Hayward Fowler

James Hayward Fowler was born on June 6th according to his mother and June 7, 1945 according to his birth certificate, but both were always celebrated just to make sure. He came into this world by cesarean as a big healthy smiling baby, and that huge smile can be seen in all his pictures.

A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, August 24th at Albritton Funeral Directors. Instead of a funeral, a celebration of life is to be shared with the greater community at a later date.

He was told as a child in school that he had the personality to be in television and that's exactly what he ending up doing. He was the life of the party and loved to make people laugh and smile.

One of the real joys in his life was music and being a member of the Beethoven Four and the Lords of London during the 60s band era. They toured all over the country and even had an original record produced with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Hayward got into the television business in the 1980s on a 10-watt channel in a tiny trailer in Kelltown. It was something he had never done before, but like in everything he did, he wasn't scared and was excited to try it. He had the first call in talk show in Tifton with a phone and desk and people called in and talked about everything that was happening in Tifton. He was instrumental in having one of the first local channels on cable called the Fun Channel "Fowler's Unusual Network" and started documenting everyday life in Tifton and surrounding counties. It has since expanded into 19 counties and over 40 years of documented memories of life in South Georgia.

In his older age, he considered himself a father to Tifton, and like a father he spoke from the heart, and was very direct in what he thought was best. He loved Tifton and always wanted it and the people, to grow and flourish.

He is preceded in death by his father James Douglas Fowler and Mother Lucy Phillips Fowler. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Glenda Gill Fowler, daughter Arden Duran Fowler, and grandchild Solar Glenwood Tanton
