James Thomas "Tommy" Gibbs, a cherished member of the Tifton community, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 23, 2025, just days shy of his 79th birthday. Born on May 26, 1946, in Tifton, Georgia, Tommy was a man of many passions and a dedicated family man who devoted his life to his loved ones.

After attending Tift County High School, Tommy embarked on a fulfilling career at the University of Georgia Maintenance at the Rainwater Division, where he served diligently for over thirty years. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and friends.
Tommy was known for his vibrant personality. He had a profound love for gardening, taking great joy in nurturing plants and flowers. Beyond his green thumb, he enjoyed building various projects and raising chickens, embracing the joys of Southern life and the great outdoors. His zest for life extended to the happiness he found in sharing activities with his family, especially the delight he felt while riding his grandchildren on his tractor. These moments created lasting memories that his family will treasure forever. In addition to his many passions, he also had a playful spirit and enjoyed playing pranks on family and friends.
An active member of the First Baptist Church of TyTy, Tommy was deeply devoted to his faith and was a proud member of The T.H.E.E. Sunday School Class, where he cultivated friendships and fostered connections with those around him. His love for gospel music further enriched his life and the lives of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty six years, Linda Kay McBrayer Gibbs, who stood by his side throughout their life together in Tifton. He leaves behind his children, Wendy and Randy Pollock and Rebecca and Galen Murphy, as well as his grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Tanner Murphy, Leah Murphy, Emmett Murphy, and Addison Pollock. Tommy was also a proud great-grandfather to Barrett Murphy. His sister, Joann Woellert Cook, continues to honor his legacy
Tommy is preceded in death by his father, James Halton Gibbs; his mother, Hazel Bass Gibbs; and his sister, Dorothy Gibbs Cosper. Each of these family members held a special place in his heart and contributed to the remarkable man he became.
As we remember Tommy, we celebrate the memory of a man who loved fiercely and lived fully. His kindness, humor, and compassion will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
