James Robert Gilbert

Mr. James Robert Gilbert, 88, of Tifton passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Legacy Village Assisted Living Center of Tifton.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM in Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Rocky Carrington officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the funeral home before the service.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Gilbert, Bill Grantham, Steve Gilbert, Trent Bryan and Sammie Dillard.

Mr. Gilbert was born January 31, 1931 in Grady County, Georgia to the late Joe Brown Gilbert and Lois Eva Sellars Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years Mary Ella Wilson Gilbert who died April 16, 2017, two brothers, Billy Joe Gilbert and Jimmy Lee Gilbert and one sister, Evelyn Gilbert Carrington. Mr. Gilbert was a United States Army veteran of Korean War and of Baptist faith. He was a meat cutter for Colonial and Big Star Supermarkets before retiring. Mr. Gilbert loved his family and his wife. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jamie Griner of Tifton; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. “Robbie” and Angie Gilbert of Tifton; his sister, Betty Sue Cordle; grandchildren, Jaci and Trent Bryan, Shane and Jessica Gilbert; great grandchildren, Jordan and Amber Gilbert, Halleigh and Kameron Wilcox, Emmalyn Bryan, Brantley Bryan, Brody Bryan, Grace Gilbert and Carlee Gilbert; great great grandchildren, Zoey Gilbert, Luxx Gilbert and Rynleigh Wilcox.
