James “Jim” Allen Huggins, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on January 26, 2026, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. He was born at his home on April 18, 1946, in Hope Mills, North Carolina, he lived a life that was rich in love, service, and passion.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Awaken Church, where he was a member. Rev. Shane Suggs and Rev. Andy Ring will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery with Military Honors being rendered. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Albritton Funeral Directors from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
Dennis Peters, Jerry Hamby, Carson Moore, Larry Cook, Daniel Bailey and Stacey Byrd will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be any former ball players who he coached or played with him.
Jim had a successful career as a Sales Manager with Dixie Lily, where his dedication and work ethic set an example for others. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was deeply engaged in his community, cherishing the time spent supporting youth sports as an avid fan and coach. His remarkable contributions to the world of softball earned him a well-deserved place in the Georgia Hall of Fame as a coach, player and umpire, reflecting his commitment to the sport and the young athletes he inspired.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Jim embodied the spirit of service and camaraderie. While in the Air Force, he was a pitcher on the fast pitch team. His competitive nature extended beyond the fields and courts; he was also an avid golfer, finding joy on the greens and sharing many happy moments with friends and family.
Jim was a high school graduate and attended ABAC, where he laid the groundwork for his future endeavors. He was very family-oriented, serving as a role model to many youths.
His love and dedication to his family were evident in everything he did. He will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-seven years, Glenda Crowley Huggins; his children, Tammy Huggins Byrd, Tracey Huggins Bailey, and Chris Huggins; and his grandchildren, Emily Huggins and her husband, Felipe Rodriguez, Jackson Bailey, Emery Huggins, Kiersten Huggins, Grady Byrd, Harper Huggins, and Hudson Huggins. He was excitedly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild in the coming weeks. He is survived by his brother, George Blease Huggins, Jr., and his wife, Brenda, along with his brother-in-law Randall Crowley.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, competitive spirit, and unwavering support for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, George Blease Huggins, Sr.; his mother, Kathleen Carter Huggins Ivey; his granddaughter, Caroline Bailey; and his sister, Barbara Huggins Gautier.
Jim Huggins leaves behind a legacy of love, sportsmanship, and devotion that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
