John Will McGill, Sr., 76, of Tifton passed away Monday, December 8, 2020 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Keith Burch officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. before the service.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Register, Pork Chop, Rusty Turner, Mike Dozier, Harold Turner and Steve Renner.
John was born March 10, 1944 in Tift County to the late John D. McGill and Annie Leigh Hayes McGill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Toms McGill and Donna Stephens McGill, his second wife. John was a member of Sunrise Chapel Church of God of Prophecy since 2002. He was an usher at the church and loved to attend. He had lived most of his life in Tifton. John owned and operated Triple Auto Repair Shop for fifty years. He was a mechanic on cars and trucks, built hot rods and raced cars. He was a race car legend with fifty years of racing. John enjoyed everyday with his race friends and fans. He raced at fourteen different race tracks in Georgia and Florida. He always stayed in the top five cars to finish each race. After John stopped driving the race cars, he let younger drivers drive his cars. They all did as John and stayed in the top five finishes and wins.
John is survived by two sons, John Wendell McGill and Sonny John McGill both of Tifton; two daughters, Linda Harbuck of Ellaville and Alisha Hartsfield of Norman Park; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his two sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Tidd of Ellaville and Brenda and Junior Johnson of Stockton.
