Mr. Jack Smith, 88 of Tifton, died Sunday, August 08, 2021, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
A graveside memorial service and interment will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Doug Hudson officiating and military honors rendered by the United States Air Force in Tift Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith was born in Macon, Georgia on September 12, 1932 as the son Durwood Eugene Smith and Doarie Carter Smith Johns both of whom preceded him in death. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of sixty years, Karol Streicher Smith, his daughter Ellaine Yeaman and his brother, Gene Smith.
He graduated from Valdosta City High School in Valdosta Georgia and attended Florida State University before joining the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mr. Smith retired from the Air Force in 1971. After his military retirement, he moved his family to Tifton where he became the Vocational Director and Assistant Principal of the Tift County High School for twenty years. In Tifton, he formerly served on the Tiftarea Humane Society Board of Directors, Trustee at The Peace Lutheran Church and coached Little League sports, while his children were young. He was a member of The United States Air Force Sergeant’s Association and The Georgia Vocational Association.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Flowers Smith of Tifton, his son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Amy Smith of Dacula, his grandchildren Tyler Smith and Dylan Smith.
