Joseph “Joe” Henry Lawrence, Sr. 84, was born on June 19, 1941, in Miami, Florida. He passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and dedication to his family and community.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Mr. Scott Carmical officiating. No formal visitation will be held.
Joe enjoyed a distinguished career in the banking industry, contributing forty-eight years of service, including significant roles at South Georgia Banking and Bank of America, where he held the position of Vice President. His professional achievements were matched only by his deep commitment to his family, embodying a spirit of togetherness and joy that resonated throughout his life. Joe was very family-oriented, always finding joy in spending time with his grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and happiness for him.
Educated in the local community, Joe graduated from Tift County High School before furthering his education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies; he cherished the moments spent riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, working diligently in his yard, and engaging in people-watching. Additionally, he enjoyed watching sports on television, sharing his enthusiasm with those around him.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of forty-six plus years, Deborah "Debbie" Overton Lawrence; his children, Joe and Cynthia Lawrence, Jr., Jason Lawrence, and Michael Lawrence and Teresa Serrano; his daughter-in-law, Brandy Lawrence; his grandchildren, Heather Waldrop and Tom, Heidi Goldman and Steven, Cader Lawrence, Colten Lawrence, and Tatum Lawrence; as well as his great-grandchildren, John Waldrop, Olivia Waldrop, Lily Goldman, Mason Goldman, and Marlee Goldman. His warmth and kindness will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Lawrence; his mother, Gladys Elder Lawrence; and his brother, Terry Neil Lawrence.
