Lawrence Russell Merwarth

Lawrence Russell Merwarth, 83, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 03, 2017 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Ronny Vice officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Brett Sullivan, Gary Dove, J.R. Daniel, Guy Cravey, Elijah Sanders and Tony Sumner will serve as pallbearers. Stan English, Tommy Stone and Tommy Sullivan will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Merwarth was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on May 30, 1934 to the late Orlando and Lillie Warner Merwarth Stipe. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and was the maintenance supervisor for Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania for 33 years. Mr. Merwarth was married to Barbara Louise Peterson Merwarth.  He was a member of Tifton Gideon Camp and a missionary with Amazing Grace Missions. Mr. Merwarth was also an active member of Grace Baptist Church where he was the former treasurer and drove a bus in the Bus Ministry. He loved winning souls for the Lord.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Merwarth is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Charlene Lindenmayer of Raleigh, NC; one nephew, Paul and Patty Hitzel of Easton, PA and his special girl, his puppy Bekah.

Mr. Merwarth was preceded in death by a nephew, Lawrence Russell Hitzel.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church 1900 West Golden Road, Tifton, GA 31793.
