Mr. Lawrence Neil Wood, 85 of Ty Ty, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at his daughter-in-law, Sonya Burn’s home in Irwin County.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. in Oakridge Cemetery on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Derrell Hampton and Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. There will not be a public visitation.
Mr. Neil was born in Tift County to the late Herbert Dillard Wood and Alma Odessa Peugh Wood on March 25, 1936 in Tift County. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Marie Wood Fite, brother Dr. Darrell Eugene Wood, and his sons, Michael Allen Godwin and Douglas Brian Godwin.
Mr. Neil had lived his entire life in Tift County and was proud of his long career in agriculture and his retirement with Georgia Power. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, tell stories and spend time with his family. One of his favorite past times was to cook fish for his many friends, family and neighbors, who all held a special place in his life especially his family. He never met a stranger and if you met him once you never forgot him.
He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Tony Robinson of Ponte Vedra, F, and Dionne an Dr. Mac Sims of Chula, daughter-in-law, Sonya and Klayton Burns of Chula, and his two sons and daughter-in-law, Scott Wood of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Todd and Heather Godwin of Ellabell, his grandchildren, Danielle Godwin Buckley, Colby Godwin, Kennedy Godwin Holder, Will Godwin, Tal Godwin, Dalton Wood, Lars Sims, Lauren Grace Godwin, Hannah Robinson, Ridley Sims, West Burns, and Nora Jane Burns, great grandchildren, Buck Buckley, and Riley Buckley, and his sister, Eleanor Rose Wood Cooper of Charlotte, NC.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to The Douglas B. Godwin Memorial Trust, P.O. Box 86, Chula, Ga 31733
