Lawsona Jane Twilley Gibson, 89, of Brunswick, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2026.
Born on December 6, 1936, Lawsona was the daughter of the late Lawson and Jimmie Akins Twilley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 55 years, John W. Gibson Sr., whom she married on September 26, 1956. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2011.
Lawsona lived a life marked by service, leadership, intellect, and deep devotion to her family and community. She served as President of the Georgia Garden Clubs, actively participated in PTA when her children attended school, was active with the South Bend Symphony organization and Ballroom Dancing Club, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A faithful member of the Episcopal Church, she was also a Daughter of the Stations of the Cross.
She was known for her quick wit, determination, independence, and competitive spirit. An accomplished chef, gifted seamstress, avid reader, and exceptional bridge player, she continued to pursue new challenges throughout her life, earning American Contract Bridge League Master-points within the last year while playing alongside her daughter and playing social Mahjong. Those who knew her will remember her sharp mind, warm hospitality, and unwavering love for her family.
Lawsona held a special place in her heart for her grandmother, Ava Jane Whiddon Akins, with whom she spent much of her childhood. The influence of her grandmother remained a cherished part of her life.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Johnson Burnett and her husband, Bob. She is also survived by her children: John W. Gibson Jr. (Elizabeth), of Sealy, Texas; LouisGregory Gibson (Elizabeth); and Alicia Gibson MacArthur (Scott), of St. Simons Island, Georgia.
She leaves behind a loving legacy through her grandchildren: Lawsona Gandy and her children,Mary Ellen Gandy and Olen Gandy(Laina); John W. Gibson III (Debbie), and their children, Mary Claire, Elizabeth, John IV, James, Felicity, Felix, Gemma, and Aria Gibson, of Kalispell, Montana; Will MacArthur (Erica), of New York City; Ava Jett (David), and their daughters, Georgia and Audrey, of Atlanta, Georgia; and Olivia Adams (Jay), and their daughter, Ella, of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, where Lawsona will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and near her cherished grandmother, Ava Jane Whiddon Akins and many other beloved family members.
Her family rejoices in a life well lived and gives thanks for the enduring example of strength, grace, faith, and love she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered
