Margaret Elizabeth (Jones) Barnhill

Margaret Elizabeth Jones Barnhill, 96 of Tifton passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Oakridge cemetery with Rev. John Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, May 31st from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barnhill was born October 15, 1922 in Dublin, Georgia to the late David Jefferson Jones and Gladys Raffield Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, William David Barnhill and James Edwin Barnhill and one sister, Sara Hester. Mrs. Barnhill was member of First Baptist Church of Tifton. She retired from J. P. Stevens after twenty-one years and worked at Alert Telephone Answering Service and Georgia Agrirama for several years. Mrs. Barnhill was member of Tift Regional Medical Center Pink Ladies Auxiliary for thirty-one years, past member of Business and Professional Women’s Club, past president and secretary of Garden Gate Garden Club. She was a member of Eastern Star since 1966 serving as Worthy Matron, President of District Past Matron’s club, President of Past Matron and Patron clubs, and several other offices.  She was also a member of Amaranth Court # 25 where she served as Royal Matron and historian on the state level. Mrs. Barnhill was member of the Golden Age Club.

Mrs. Barnhill is survived by her daughter-in-law, Waldene Barnhill of Tifton; two grandchildren, Scott and Adrienne Barnhill of Jacksonville and Jamie Barnhill Fowler of Tifton, three great grandchildren, Fletcher Barnhill, Hudson Fowler and Collin Fowler.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Tifton, 404 Love Ave., Tifton, Ga., or a charity of choice.
