Margaret (Shivers) Wood

Mrs. Margaret Shivers Wood, 81, was called home on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday evening, June 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Albritton Funeral Directors Chapel. A private family interment will be held at a later date.

Born in Colquitt County on July 21, 1936 to the late Frank Shivers and Sallie Dorminey Shivers. Mrs. Wood was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed 30 years of service with the Coastal Plains Experiment Station in Tifton. Friends will remember her as a compassionate soul who was active in her church community, often accompanying her husband Franklin to various gospel sings. Her family will remember her most for baiting hooks, picking blackberries, summer mountain trips, and being the “grandmother-of-all-trades”. Mrs. Wood, better known as “Nana” to her grand and great-grandchildren, was handy with a baseball glove and a paintbrush, and knew well that a Dr. Pepper and Little Debbie could solve most any problem.

She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Delano Wood and is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Dianne (Bill) Posey of Moultrie and Pam (Jimmy) Russell of LaGrange; five grandchildren, Kent (Danielle) Posey of Moultrie, Cole (Julie) Posey of Moultrie, Jordan Russell of Athens, Benjamin Russell of Birmingham and Daniel (Kathy Lecroix) Russell of Marietta; four great-grandchildren, Beau, Savannah, Liam and Wyatt Posey; one sister, Jean Golden of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers and their spouses, Joseph (Myrtie) Shivers of West Palm Beach, Florida and Ronnie (Brenda) Shivers of Perry, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Shivers of Augusta, Georgia.
