Maria Elena “Malena” Alanis, 56, of Omega, who was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on October 23, 2023, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born on August 27, 1967, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.

A funeral mass service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church of Tifton with Father Peter Oyenugba officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:45 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.


Maria had a passion for helping others throughout her life. She began her career as an insurance agent with Insurance Unlimited, where she dedicated herself to providing excellent service and support to her clients. Maria's commitment and expertise made a positive impact on the lives of many.

She graduated from Natalia high school in Texas in 1986 and later attended Southern Regional with a medical assistant degree. Maria was known for her vibrant personality. She was charismatic and had an infectious energy that brought joy to everyone around her. Maria had a genuine love for people and would readily offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Her caring nature touched the lives of many and will be cherished by all who knew her.

In her free time, Maria found solace in spending time with her twin granddaughters, family and friends. They brought immense joy to her life, and she treasured every moment shared with them. The bond between Maria and her granddaughters was unbreakable and filled with love.

Family meant everything to Maria. She is survived by her loving mother, Orfalinda Flores Alanis; her son, Rene Martinez; her daughter, Daniela Rico-Diaz all of Omega; nieces Yomeira Alanis and Alicia Martinez who she raised and loved as her own; her fiance, Jesus Roger Martinez; grandchildren Emily Martinez and Zuri Martinez; sister Carmen Alanis and brothers Juan Alaniz, Jose Juvetino Alaniz, and Efrain Alanis.

Maria is preceded in death by her father, Juventino and sister Yomeira Alanis. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew them.
