Mrs. Martha Cleghorn Fletcher, 91, of the Waterloo community in Irwin County died Sunday, June 13, 2021 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at Albritton Funeral Directors on Wednesday, June 16 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Jeff Pangle and Rev. Landon Alberson officiating. Burial will follow at Eureka Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 15 at Albritton Funeral Directors.
Andrew Bryan, Rylan Bryan, Ryder Bryan, Avery Bryan, Nathan Chapman, Terry Harper, Sam Hudson, Glenn Hudson, Matthew Moschera, and Rob Walker will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Martha was one of thirteen children of the late Avery and Essie Mardell Parks Cleghorn. She was born on January 26, 1930 in Wilcox County. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Melvin Fletcher, six sisters, Ruby Hall, Dora Hall, twin Mary Harper, Nancy Tribble, Lucile Neisler and Frances Marie Cleghorn, and three brothers, Avery Cleghorn, Jr., Frank Cleghorn, and Jesse Cleghorn.
Mrs. Martha was a witty, wonderful homemaker who loved to cook and was always prepared to have guests at her table. She was an expert seamstress, and had an impeccable sense of style. She loved her family, displaying many of their photos throughout her home, going on family trips, and cooking anything her grandchildren wanted on request. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Arp Missionary Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. She also enjoyed attending Eureka Primitive Baptist Church with her husband and son and Waterloo Baptist Church with her daughter.
She is survived by one son, Gary Fletcher of Waterloo, one daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Rob Bryan of Waterloo, one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Anna and Ryan Conklin of Delaware, Ohio, one grandson, Andrew Bryan of Waterloo, great grandchildren, Rylan Bryan, Ryder Bryan, and Avery Bryan, one sister Wynell Oliver of Macon, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Mity Cleghorn of Richmond Hill, and Sam and Lee Ann Cleghorn of Ray City, and Margaux Moschera and Stacy Chapman, who she also considered her grandchildren. Special thanks to her caregivers who took excellent care of her in her later years – Janice Pearson, Mary Cooper, Brenda Wertz and Peggy Powell.
