Martha Sue Sklany

Martha Sue Day Sklany, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. Born on February 24, 1950, in Tift County and raised in the Waterloo Community, Martha's life was marked by deep family devotion, community involvement, and a commitment to her faith.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Tift Memorial Gardens with Mr. Bill Dennison officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

A graduate of Irwin County High School, Martha was a dedicated office manager for the Tift County Court Reporters Office. Renowned for her exceptional typing skills, she faithfully served the office for fifteen plus years until her retirement in 2007. Her professional life was characterized by diligence and a warm presence that left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

Martha’s personal life was richly filled with love and service. She cherished her role within her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren, Leanna and Shane, who held a very special place in her heart. She also delighted in caring for her beloved dogs—Bitsy, Piper, Ginger, and Woody—who brought her countless moments of joy and companionship. Martha’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family as she contributed to the Day family farm, embracing her roots and the agricultural heritage that shaped her formative years.

As a proud member of Tift Avenue Missionary Baptist Church of Tifton, Martha found strength and solace within her church family, which she loved dearly. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She also took pleasure in the camaraderie of the Red Hat Club and found great satisfaction in cooking, often preparing meals with love and care for those around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Sklany McKee Goodman; her grandson, Michael Shane McKee; and her brother, Charles Lee Day of Marietta.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eddie Sklany, who passed away on August 7, 2021; her parents, Joe Buddy Day and Juanita Wilson Day; her daughter, Cindy Sklany Ball; her granddaughter, Leanna Nicole McKee; and her siblings, Gloria Fletcher, Mack Day, Don Day, and Joseph Day.

In a touching final gesture, Martha left a note expressing how deeply she loved each member of her family, reflecting the kindness and warmth that defined her life.

Martha’s enduring spirit, her generous heart, and her unwavering dedication to family and community will be remembered with the deepest respect and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
