Mary Elouise Phelps Sutton, known affectionately as Elouise, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at her residence in Tifton, Georgia. Born on June 25, 1933, in Tift County, she lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

A graveside service to honor the life of Mary Elouise Phelps Sutton will take place on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 293 Mount Zion Church Road in Chula, Georgia 31733. The family will receive friends at the graveside after the service.

Ricky Sutton, Tyler Sutton, Jamie Carter, Hunter Mercer, Brandon Letson and Ryan Moore will serve as pallbearers.

Elouise was a hardworking and compassionate woman, who devoted over twenty years of her life working as a cashier for Harvey’s Supermarket and Curtis Packing Company. Her work ethic was exemplary, and she was known for her ability to meet any challenge with grace and determination.

A devoted mother, Elouise raised her daughters in the Proverbs way, instilling strong values and teaching by example. She cherished keeping busy, finding joy in cooking and nurturing those around her. She had a natural warmth that made her beloved by friends and family alike; she never met a stranger and was always kind and gracious to everyone she encountered. Eloise’s love extended especially to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, with whom she loved spending time and creating precious memories.

Elouise was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church of Tifton, exemplifying her commitment to her faith throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Donnis L. Sutton, Debra Sellers and her husband LaDon Sellers, and Patricia Baker and her husband Gene Baker. Eloise's legacy lives on through her grandchildren Ricky Sutton and Amanda, Jeff Payne, Michelle Moore, Jamie Carter, Eugenia Moore and her husband Josh and Kimberly Letson and her husband Brandon. She was also a proud great-grandmother to seventeen great-grandchildren and great-great-grandmother to eighteen remarkable great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Phelps.

Elouise was preceded in death by her father, Jack Phelps; her mother, Ruby Fowler Phelps; her grandson, DeWayne Sutton, great grandson, Hayden Sutton; and three brothers and two sisters.

Mary Elouise Phelps Sutton’s enduring spirit, kindness, and strong family values have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community.
