Mr. Milton Clarence “Tubby” Hawkins, 94, of Omega passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Bethel Baptist Church in Omega with Dr. Howard Burke and Rev. Andy Ring officiating. Interment will follow in Omega City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. before the service at the church.
Eddie Dunn, Jamie Dillard, Dustin Hawkins, Carey Hawkins, Ricky Willis, Julian Bennett and Jason Hawkins will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Lamb, Harold Bennett, Tony Bennett, Billy Willis, Buddy Hartsfield, Buck Bryant, Carroll Coarsey, Tony Strenth, Marty Bennett, Roy Jones, Kenny Swain, Travis Swain, Clarence Swain, Charles Sumner, Gibbs Patrick, Jr., Paul Clark, David Keith,Tim Hartsfield and Larry Dunn.
Mr. Hawkins was born December 9, 1925 in Tift County to the late John W. Hawkins and Ophelia Watson Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Hawkins who died June 23, 2017, four sisters and two brothers. Mr. Hawkins was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Omega. He had attended Omega Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. Mr. Hawkins served on the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau for Tift County. He was a farmer and mail carrier for United States Postal Service. He loved hunting, fishing and growing a garden for the community.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife Stene Harrison Hawkins to whom he was married for seventy-two years at his death; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Clay Sanders of Omega; one son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Nancy Hawkins of Omega; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Marchant Hawkins of Tifton; grandchildren Jason Hawkins, Michelle (Barry) Wilkerson, Haley Hawkins, Dustin Hawkins ,Carey Hawkins, Leah Slimp (Jason), Christi Bryant, John Cason (Aileen), Darian Sanders (Brooke) and Dustin Sanders; great grandchildren Rylee Bryant, Bentley Bryant, Cason Johnston, Hagan and Hudson Slimp, Chasity, Neelia, Jada, Toni and Arla Cason, Tristyn Webb, Josh and Beyla Wilkerson, Ty Sanders and Pate Sanders; one sister, Dorothy McDonald of Boston, Georgia and a special family friend, LeAnne McAlpin.
