Mrs. Marie Vernell “Nell” Pearman Jones, of Chula, 86, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Chula at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2019 with Chaplain Stephen Norris, Rev. Larry Layfield and Rev. David Phelps officiating. Music will be led by Wayne Jones. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Chula. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, August 6th at Albritton Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Jared York, Aaron York, Jake Jones, Sam Phelps, Dan Richardson, Reid Jones, Lee Fletcher and Luke Fletcher will serve as pallbearers.
Miss Nell was born on November 5, 1932 in Tift County and was the daughter of the late Fred Pearman and Maudell Cheek Pearman. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Jackson “Jack” Jones, Sr., an infant daughter; an infant brother; three sisters, Gerry Pearman, Billie Nelms and Barbara Pearman. Mrs. Nell was co-owner of Jones Peanut Company where she worked until her retirement. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Chula where she faithfully served in the music ministry and other various capacities until her health began to fail. Her Christian compassion for others was manifested in her passion to meet the needs of her family, church and community.
Miss Nell is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Nicki Jones of Chula; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and David York of Valdosta, Ginger and David Phelps of Jefferson City, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Jared and Christen York of Chula, Aaron York of Troy, Michigan, Hannah York of Valdosta, Sam and Lauren Phelps of Mansfield, Texas, A. K. Jones of Columbia, Missouri, Jake and Sierra Jones of Atlanta, Kelsey Jones of Chula and Ashlyn Jones of Atlanta; one great granddaughter, Madison York of Chula.
We, the family, would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the following caregivers for the compassionate, loving care shown to Mama and us during her illness: Linda Lawson, Jessie Roberson, Joy Hooper, Sylvia Knighton, Ann Wright, Palliative and Hospice Care of Tift Area, and Georgia Living Senior Home Care.
