Mr. Raymond E. Hightower, Sr., 76, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brookfield Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Cadwell and Rev. Gerald Mallard officiating. Interment will follow in Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the church before the service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Clements, Jr., Josh Roberts, Cole Dillard, Matthew Roberts, Slaton Coarsey and Trenton Dillard. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and senior couples Sunday school class of Brookfield Baptist Church.
Mr. Hightower was born October 7, 1942 in Tift County to the late Earl W. Hightower and Merlyn Jones Hightower. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Butcher Hightower; grandson Wyatt Dillard; brother-in-law, Jimmy Mullis and sister-in-law, Leslie Carswell. He was a member and deacon of Brookfield Baptist Church for over twenty years where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir and other positions. Raymond was also a member of The Tifton Gideon Camp. He worked most of his adult life at Tifton Coca Cola Company. He was the most giving, humble, sweet and kind hearted person. He always thought of others before himself. Raymond was a devoted Christian, husband and cherished his family who he loved unconditionally.
Mr. Hightower is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Rosemary Carswell Hightower; his children, Laura and Will Roberts, William and Debbi Dillard, Alicia and Jason Coarsey; his sister, Yvonne Mullis of Tifton, brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Kathy Hightower of Ridgeland, South Carolina; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jim Bass of Tifton; brother-in-law, Herschel Carswell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eddie and Terri Carswell of Nashville, Tennessee; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
