Robert Earl "Bob" Stoufer

Robert Earl “Bob” Stoufer, 90, of Tifton, passed away August 28, 2016 at Carl Vinson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 03, 2016 at Albritton Funeral Directors Chapel. The Rev. Dan Robinson will officiate and Brother Charles Sumner will give the eulogy. Burial will follow at Enigma Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 PM before the funeral on Saturday, September 03, 2016.

Pallbearers will be his nephews; Jerry Brannen, Adam Brannen, Bobby Brannen, Chad Barfield, Clint Barfield, Mark Burchett, Mike Burchett and Darin Bishop.

Mr. Stoufer was born on June 09, 1926 in St. Petersburg, Florida to the late Wilbur Stoufer and Mabel Miller Stoufer.

Mr. Stoufer served 30 honorable years in the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant E-7.  His active duty service included World War II and the Korean War. He participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands from April 1, 1945 to June 21, 1945 and the Occupation of Japan from August 30, 1945 to April 3, 1946. His 22 years of active duty was followed by 8 years of service to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve. Upon retiring from the US Marine Corps, Mr. Stoufer worked for many years as City Manager for GAC Tax Returns, Incorporated, including tax consulting and teaching classes to tax preparers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After moving to Tifton in 1978, Mr. Stoufer worked as an HVAC and Refrigeration Mechanic until his health forced him to retire.  He was a faithful member of Chula United Methodist Church, Sixth Marine Division Association, and American Legion Home Post 21.

Mr. Stoufer loved children, especially taking his nephews to ball games, tennis and other sport activities.  This special time was just preparing him for his grandchildren that finally came along and PaPa Bob was the best grandfather ever, to hear them tell it! He was the best handyman at Zionhaven Farms, where he constructed pens, shelters and houses for the farm animals, as well as fed, groomed and petted them.  Of course, Fluffy and Sparky were his special little dogs that traveled everywhere with him.

Mr. Stoufer was preceded in death by five brothers; Bill, Dan, Fletcher, Al G. and Dave Stoufer, three sisters; Florence Victorin, Louise Sigmon and Betty Jane Stoufer; and an infant daughter, Gloria Jean.

Mr. Stoufer is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Bishop Stoufer, of Tifton, his daughter, Cheryl Stoufer Berberich (Chuck) of Raytown, Missouri, step-son, Keith Norris Phillippi (Laura) of Macon,  three grandchildren; Christian Bailey Phillippi, Keilee Alyse Phillippi and Chandler Bishop Phillippi, and several nephews and nieces.
