Robert "Bob" Bruce Gressette

Robert  “Bob” Bruce Gressette, 79, of Tifton, Georgia passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3rd at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church of Tifton with Rev. Benjy Varnell and Rev. Jerry Lillard officiating. A private interment will be held at Mr. Gressette’s residence. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home.

Ben Tyson, Tim Robinson, Harry Brewer, Ron Evans, Albert Potts, Ben Stevenson and Paul Sumner will serve as pallbearers. The Christian Covenant Sunday School Class, Fellowship Class, Jeff Gill Memorial Scholarship Committee and members of Tifton High School Class of 1955 will serve as Honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Gressette was born December 26, 1937 in Florence, SC to the late Bruce Gressette and Bessie Dunovant Gressette. He was married to Esta Blackwood Gressette of Tifton. He was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton where he worked with Dial A Prayer Ministry, “Pat’s Can’s program, Jeff Gill Memorial scholarship committee, was teacher for the Christian covenant Sunday school class and fellowship class. He was a 1955 graduate of Tifton High School and received his Bachelor of Science from Georgia Southern Teacher’s College, Master’s degree from the University of Georgia. He then began a teaching career that spanned many years and he served in the National Guard. He researched and authorized a book on the Ocmulgee and Flint railroad project.  He wrote “ Cooter”, the humorous Lives of Coon Hunters.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gressette is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Rob Carey of Willow Springs, Missouri; one grandson, Cole Patrick Carey.

Mr. Gressette was preceded in death by his grandson, Jake Steele Carey.

Flowers will be accepted or donations made to Altar fund at First United Methodist Church of Tifton, 107 12th Street W, Tifton, Ga. 31794.
