Ruby Wright McCurdy

Ruby Irene Wright McCurdy, 95 passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Southern Oaks Personal Care Home surrounded by her loving family. She was formerly a resident of the Waterloo Community in Irwin County, Georgia. Her journey began on July 30, 1930 in Turner County where she was born as one of twelve children to her parents, Woodfin Henry Wright and Georgia Lessie Brown Wright.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Waterloo Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Pangle officiating and Rev. Ronnie Shiflett will deliver the closing prayer at the graveside in Waterloo Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.

Joe Hilton, Lanier McCurdy, Justin McCurdy, Jordan McCurdy, Steve Hogan and Fred Pylant will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Ruby’s life was a testament to quiet strength and compassionate generosity. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife, cooking for her family and hosting the family gatherings. She always cooked three meals a day with biscuits and anyone was welcome. Through seasons of joy and challenge, she was always concerned with the well-being of those she loved. During the last years of her mother's life, Mrs. Georgia lived in the house with McCurdy family. Mrs. Ruby cherished the relationships of her family, friends, and neighbors. She was certainly a woman of wisdom who showed empathy, and humility. She was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church for most of her adult life, which helped her have an unwavering faith.

Mrs. Ruby was the wife of the late Raymond Hulett McCurdy, with whom she built an enduring partnership. Her family was her life’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She is survived by six children: Geraldine and Larry Jordan, Brenda and Tommy Hilton, Ronnie and Wanda McCurdy, Stanley and Gail McCurdy, Craig McCurdy, Larue McCurdy; her grandchildren Penny Jordan, Stephanie Hilton Hogan, Joe Hilton, Lanier McCurdy, Jennifer McBlanchett, Kari Newell, Rebecca McCurdy Pylant, Heather Hilton, Justin McCurdy, Jordan McCurdy, Eddie McCurdy, Laura McCurdy, and numerous great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded her in death, her husband, Hulett, and her eleven siblings Louise Henderson, Willie Mae Young, Jewell Bryan, Mary Spradley, Helen Bledsoe, Grace Thompson, Virginia Day, Arthur Wright, Charlie Wright, Bennie Wright, David Wright and unnamed infant brother along with daughter-in-law, Tonya McCurdy.
