Shirley (Bass) Griffin

Shirley Bass Griffin, 89, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Southern Oaks Personal Care Home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Larry Layfield and Rev. Jason Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday, November 26th at the funeral home.

Russ Griffin, Ryan Griffin, David McElroy, Mark Mitchell, Ronnie Greene, Stephen Stripling, Raymond Boswell and Neal Roberson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Southern Oaks Personal Care Home.

Mrs. Griffin was born May 29, 1928 in Tift County to the late William E. Bass, Sr., and Ruby Smith Bass. She married Charles A. Griffin on July 28, 1950 and he passed away January 6, 1985. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Bass; four sisters, Odella Nason, Hazel Mitchell, Marion McElroy and Peggy Rowe.

Mrs. Griffin was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chula and was formerly a member of New River Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over thirty years. Mrs. Griffin was employed by the Tift County Tax Assessors’ office for many years, later Mid-town Pharmacy and after retirement she returned to work for the Ga. Veterinary Diagnostic Lab located in Tifton. She loved to travel, read (especially her Bible), play cards with her friends and most of all be with her family.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Kathy Griffin of Chula, Richard and Jerilyn Griffin of Sycamore; one daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Stanley Stripling of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Russ and Erin Griffin, Ryan and Rachel Griffin, Laura and Kevin de Gracia, Timothy and Meagan Stripling, Philip Stripling, Stephen Stripling, Matt and Sara Sumner and Shelly Griffin; ten great-grandchildren.
