Shirley (Spradlin) Tawzer

August 19, 1943 — March 1, 2018

Shirley Ann Spradlin Tawzer, 74, of Tifton passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Wayside Baptist Church with Rev. Cory Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Josh Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday evening March 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Timmy White, Charles Cleary, Jason Upshaw, Johnny Tawzer, Randy Hand and Buddy Cawley. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary Jo Wright, Gus & Diane Upshaw, Melody & Lanie Baker, Michelle Upshaw, Pat & Kitty Cawley, Glen & Elizabeth McBrayer, Harold & Maggie Tawzer, Harmon & Juanita Tawzer, Coy & Carolyn Tawzer, Ruth Hall, Henry and Jean Davis and Employees of T&S Electric.

Mrs. Tawzer was born August 19, 1943 in Tift County to the late H. G. and Louise Connor Spradlin. She was married to Glynn Tawzer for fifty-seven years.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Nadine Spradlin, brother and sister-in-law’s, T.H. and Evelyn Tawzer, Donald and Marie Tawzer, Elbert and Carol McBrayer and brother-in-law, Bill Hall; eight aunts, thirteen uncles, one nephew, one great-nephew and on great-great-niece. Mrs. Tawzer retired from Tift County Public Schools Lunchroom Services after fifteen years of service. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending livestock shows where she watched her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren exhibit livestock over the years. In 2000, she and her husband Glynn were awarded outstanding supporter of the year for their years of dedication and contributions to the Tift County Livestock Program. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was known affectionately as “Granny Grump” to all her babies.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Tubby” and Kim Tawzer of Carnesville, one daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and G. J. Harrell of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Mandy and Josh Alley of Tifton, Brandon and Allie White of Sylvania, Kelly and Evan Clark, Glynn and Haley Tawzer, and Adam Tawzer all of Carnesville; seven great-grandchildren Reid and Nora White, Caden and Cailan Alley, Parker and Ryder Clark, and Cole Tawzer; one brother Donnie Spradlin of Dothan; two sisters, Elizabeth Hardin of Tifton and Bonnie Hester of Lenox; special friends, Timmy White, Fred, Tresa, Charley and Bailey Rayfield; brother and sister-in-law’s, Glen and Elizabeth McBrayer, Harold and Maggie Tawzer, Harmon and Juanita Tawzer, Coy and Carolyn Tawzer, and Ruth Hall; seven aunts, one uncle and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
