Teekeela Sue Wood Saunders, a beloved member of her community, passed away on May 27, 2025, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. Born on July 28, 1951, in Tifton, Teekeela dedicated more than four decades of her life to serving others as a radiology technician at Tift Regional Medical Center, where she was known for her unwavering commitment and kindness.
Teekeela was a proud 1969 graduate of Crisp County High School. The she attended Radiology Tech School in Albany.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Marty Mullis officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors before the service at the cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be her girl pals, Peggy Morrow, Lynn Blalock, Johnne Graves, Kathy Kent, Pat Dees and June McKinnon.
Throughout her career and life, she exemplified a hardworking and loyal spirit, with an extraordinary ability to find joy in the simplest of tasks. She was known for her good sense of humor and her straightforward approach to life; she possessed a clear understanding of right and wrong and lived life with authenticity.
Her greatest joy came from her family, whom she loved unconditionally. In 2017, she made the noble decision to leave her job at TRMC to care for her mother, Erma Faye Cravey Wood, until her passing in 2022. This fulfillment of service and care was a testament to the depth of Teekeela’s love for her family.
Teekeela had a passion for nurturing life, displaying a green thumb as she cultivated flowers in her garden and pecan trees on her farm. She was known for her renowned chicken and dumplings, a dish that brought family and friends together in warmth and comfort.
A member of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton, Teekeela was also known for her humility; what you saw was truly what you got. She created lasting memories with those around her, and she was cherished by many for her nurturing spirit and genuine care.
Teekeela is survived by her devoted husband, Herbert Ray Saunders, her daughter, Candis Saunders Davis and Josh, and her treasured grandchildren, Jaeden, Jentry, and Jensen Davis. She also leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Tonya and Gary Harrell of Valdosta, her niece Jennifer and her husband Nathan Brantley, her nephew Dr. Kyle and his wife Ashley Harrell, her aunt Judy Cravey, and her great niece, Anna Brantley and great nephews, John Brantley, Mason Harrell and Brooks Harrell.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Lee Wood, and her mother, Erma Faye Cravey Wood.
