Thelma Rowan

September 22, 1931 — April 8, 2018

Mrs. Thelma Purvis Rowan, 86, of Tifton passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, April 13, 2018, at the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiating and eulogies given by Bobby Rowan and Rev. Jimmy Hagadorn.  Burial will follow in Union Grove Church of God cemetery.  The family will receive friends before the service from 12:00 – 1:15PM, at the funeral home.

Derek Rowan, Chris Player, Heys Rowan, Bennett Rowan, Mason Sikes, Robbie Rutland and Greysen Strickland will serve as pallbearers.  Belinda Rowan, Sherry Rowan, Elisa Strickland, Lexi Knight, Annalee Strickland, Paisley Rowan and Kenzie Walker will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born September 22, 1931, in Berrien county to the late Alvin Purvis and Corene Bennett Purvis, Mrs. Rowan was also preceded in death by her son Larry Rowan, foster son Michael Woodward, grandson Jody Rowan, and sisters Novella Wiley and Bernice Pearson.

Mrs. Rowan lived in Tift and Berrien counties most of her life.  She faithfully attended her church where she loved to sing and attend Sunday School.  She lived out her faith everyday of her life.  As a devoted wife and mother, she was a homemaker and the bookkeeper for the family business, Bobby Rowan Construction Company.    She loved everyone and was loved by all who knew her.  She was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband of sixty eight years, Bobby Rowan of Tifton, daughter Judy Rowan Player of Nashville, sons and daughters-in-law, Garry and Peggy Rowan of Nashville, Don and Dede Rowan, of Newnan, and Belinda Rowan of Tifton, six grandchildren Derek and Sherry Rowan, Chris Player, Elisa and Taylor Strickland, Heys Rowan, Bennett Rowan and Tania Morrow, seven great grandchildren Mason Sikes, Lexi Knight Greysen Strickland, Annalee Strickland, Paisley Rowan, Tyler Collins and Maddison Morrow, one brother and sister-in-law Vernon and Jean Purvis of West Berrien, and many nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Albritton Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
