Tommie Day Smith

Mr. Tommie Day Smith, 78, of Tifton passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Norris officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. at New Pine Grove Southern Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Homerville, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church before the service.

Deacons of Eastside Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be First John Sunday School Class.

Mr. Smith was born March 8, 1943 in Clinch County to the late James Haskell Smith and Lucille Strickland Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Ray Smith. He was a graduate of Clinch County High in 1962. Mr. Smith was a member of Eastside Baptist Church where he served as the church Treasurer, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Director. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after twenty-five plus years. In his earlier years, he liked to fish and hunt. After retirement, he and his wife Jewel liked to travel. Mr. Smith had lived in Tifton since 1980.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mattie Jewel Metts Smith of Tifton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dewey Smith of Rebecca and Jerry Day and Beki Smith of Irwinville; two grandchildren, Shelbi Hollingsworth and Laken Smith.
