In loving memory of Valdis Vanags, who before his retirement was a dedicated A/C Refrigeration contractor with George Ellis Company in New Haven, CT, whose journey on this earth came to a peaceful end at his residence in Tifton, Georgia. Valdis was born in Braunsweigen, Germany, on January 24, 1948.
A Celebration of Life honoring the life of Valdis Vanags will take place on Thursday, April 4th at 11:00 AM at Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church with Father Peter Oyenugba officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Albritton Funeral Directors. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will be the 2 $ boys of Springhill.
Mr. Vanags was a man of great integrity and kindness, always known for his caring nature towards others. His altruistic spirit shone brightly through his passion for volunteering at the Soup Kitchen and providing food for the participants at Ruth Cottage/Patticake House, Salvation Army and snacks for the Tift County Library teens. Valdis also proudly served with the United States Army in the First Infantry Division.
Among his proudest accomplishments, Valdis was esteemed for his service on the Regional Library and local board. In his leisure time, he found joy in the serene sport of golf and the comradery with fellow golfers.
Valdis is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Vanags, his mother Zuzanna Bogis Vanags, his brothers John Vanags, Joseph Vanags, and Peter Vanags, as well as his sister Mara Ashline.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be carried on by his beloved wife Janet Finnance Vanags; his sons and daughters-in-law - Jeffrey and Andrea Vanags of West Hartford, CT., and Dr. Jonas and Heather Vanags of Richmond Hill, GA; along with his adored grandchildren Leo Vanags, Kailyn Vanags, and Madelyn Vanags. Valdis is also survived by his brothers Alexander Vanags and Bruce Vanags, as well as several nieces and nephews.
May Valdis rest in eternal peace and may his memory continue to inspire acts of kindness and selflessness among those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
