Vivian Gaskins

Vivian Gaskins, 91 of Tifton passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Benjy Varnell officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. before the service.

Pallbearers will be Robley Smith, Mike Smith, Chris Cutler, Lee Browne, Britt Barrineau and Bobby Jones.

Mrs. Gaskins was born on September 8, 1926 in Alapaha, Georgia to the late William Byron Barrineau and Adra Barrineau. She was married to the late Leon “Buddy” Gaskins, who died January 29, 2018 for 71 years. She is survived by her son, Mark Gaskins of St. Augustine, FL and her daughter, Marcia Gaskins of Valdosta, Ga.; brothers and sister-in-law, Harry and Martha Barrineau and Everett Barrineau all of Tifton; four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Edith Barrineau and her brothers, William Clinton Barrineau, Wayne Barrineau, Glenburn Barrineau, William Byron Barrineau, Jr., and Edwin Barrineau.

Mrs. Gaskins graduated from Alapaha High School in 1943 and later from the Southern Business School in Atlanta. She moved to Washington DC and was employed by Military Intelligence during World War II. Mrs. Gaskins moved to Atlanta after her marriage in August, 1946 and worked for the Southern Railway Company prior to moving to Tifton in 1949. Mrs. Gaskins was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tifton for over 60 years, where she was also a member of the church staff for many years. Mrs. Gaskins was a very active church member, teaching Sunday School for over 20 years and serving on multiple committees and projects. She was a member of the Christian Covenant Sunday School Class. She was a wonderful mother, aunt, an avid reader and loved family history/genealogical research.
