William Addison Chappell, Sr.

October 6, 1923 — February 13, 2016

William Addison (W.A.) Chappell, Sr., 92, of Tifton, died Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Chula, Ga., with the Rev. Larry Layfield and the Rev. Chris Hall officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 17, 2016, from 6:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M., at Albritton Funeral Directors.

Reid Jones, Fred Chappell, Rick Hall, Andy Hall, Greg Chappell, and Chad Stokes will serve as pallbearers.  Members of the Adult Men III Sunday School Class at Mt. Zion will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Chappell was born October 6, 1923, in Tift County to the late Charles U. Chappell and Cora Lee Greer Chappell.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rubye Smith Chappell, to whom he was married for sixty-one years, and two brothers, Charles Chappell and Lee Chappell.

Mr. Chappell served in the U.S. Army as a part of the occupational forces following WWII.  He was a farmer and also had been a salesman for Colonial Baking Co., Murray Biscuit Co., and The Pillsbury Co. He loved to garden and had studied agricultural advances which he applied to his own farming.  Mr. Chappell always called Tift County home.  He was the oldest member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and he loved all children, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Chappell is survived by two sons, Carvis Chappell of Tifton and Billy Chappell of Macon; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Chappell of Macon and Sherry and Richard Hall of Arabi; one sister and one brother-in-law, Carolyn and Ed Smylie of Crossville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Laurie Hall, Kevin Hall, Michelle Nowell, and Brittany Stokes; and eight great-grandchildren, Ariel Hall, Harper Hall, Emma Hall, Ellie Hall, Laney Stokes, Ella Stokes, Addison Nowell, and Ansley Nowell.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 293 Mt. Zion Church Rd., Chula, Ga. 31733.
