Derry (Vickers) Gibson

Mrs. Derry Vickers Gibson, 72, of Tifton, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 at her residence.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Oakridge Cemetery with Mr. Harold Chambers officiating. COVID precautions will be observed around the family.

John Gibson, Jared Smith, Ben Cannington, Brian Cannington, Flip McMillan, Whit Massey, Dick McMillan, Jeff McMillan, Wade Kendrick and Steve Cooksey as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Hiram Smith, Sawyer Turner Gibson, Clint Kendrick, Clark Kendrick and Cruz Kendrick.

Mrs. Gibson was born November 6, 1949 in Tift County to the late C. H. Vickers and Mattie Ruth Cooksey Vickers. She was a member of Tifton Ridge Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Gibson was a 1968 graduate of Tift County High School. She graduated ABAC with an associate’s degree, Georgia Southwestern with bachelor’s degree and University of Georgia with a master’s degree all in education. She was retired from Tift County Board of Education. Her most favorite job was when she homeschooled her granddaughter, Gracie for the last two years. Her family was her life and she was the caretaker of the family. Mrs. Gibson enjoyed spending time with her family. She always put her family and friends first. As a side job she loved home decorating. Mrs. Gibson was a huge UGA fan.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband of fifty-four years and her sweetheart for sixty years, Steven Turner Gibson of Tifton; her daughter and son-in-law Allison and Lance White of Chula; her son and daughter-in-law Johnathan Turner and Rebekah Gibson of Brunswick; her grandchildren, Gracie Ruth White and Sawyer Turner Gibson; her sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Wade Kendrick of Tifton; her nephews, Clint  ”Danielle” Kendrick and Clark “Nikki” Kendrick; her great nieces and nephew, Addison Kendrick, Lilly Kendrick and Cruz Kendrick.
