Dr. Richard Bruce Chalfant, 92, of Tifton passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Tifton with Dr. Hugh Ward officiating.
Dr. Chalfant was born August 15, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to the late James Chalfant and Anne Ikins Chalfant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Richard Chalfant who died December 24, 2020; his brother, David Chalfant and his sister, Joyce Cook. Dr. Chalfant was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a medic. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tifton where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Director and sang in the Choir. Dr. Chalfant married the love of his life, Marjorie McCulloch, September 12, 1953. He graduated with a Ph.D in entomology from the University of Wisconsin in 1959. While working as an entomologist with the Coastal Plains Experiment Station, Dr. Chalfant traveled to Africa to work on various projects which helped them grow crops and the people sustain life. He retired from the Coastal Plains Experiment Station as an Entomologist in 1994. Dr. Chalfant was a member of the Lions Club for many years and held various leadership roles. He also served on the Tifton City Council from 1998 to 2006.
Dr. Chalfant enjoyed the outdoors including running, hiking and biking. He loved classical music and was an excellent singer. He loved his family and friends and he will be sorely missed.

Dr. Chalfant is survived by his wife Marjorie McCulloch Chalfant of Tifton; two daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Jo Chalfant of Tifton and Barbara Anne and David Swack of Athens.
