Harmon "Joe" Joseph Davis

Mr. Harmon Joseph “Joe” Davis, 88, of Tifton, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Maple Court Senior Care.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County with Rev. Donnie Wright and Rev. Travis Fussell officiating.

Adam Wright, Joe Wright, Zach Tomberlin, Hunter Tomberlin, Myles Wright and Andon Wright will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Pilkinton, Pete Perrin and Johnny Diakogiannis.

Mr. Davis was born August 4, 1932 in Irwin County to the late Ozia Lee Davis and Eula Lee Kimbrell Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Spicer Davis who died January 29, 2017 and a daughter Cyndy Johnson who died May 18, 2020. Mr. Davis was a member of Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County. He was retired from Coastal Plains Experiment Station and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Davis was very active in his church serving as a deacon, song leader and Sunday School teacher. He was proud of his military career where he served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1954 then finished until his retirement with the Georgia National Guard as a Sergeant. He retired in 1981 from the Coastal Plain Experiment Station, horticulture division as a research technician. He graduated from Tift County School system. After his retirement from Coastal Plains, he was owner and operator of Classic Landscape where he made many friends and installed an irrigation system for former President Jimmy Carter. Mr. Joe also owned a family meat packing business called Spicer’s Abattoir in Irwin County. Mr. Davis was a devoted family man and loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. The love of his life was his wife of sixty-five years, Miss Florence. They both shared a love of flowers and camping with friends. Mr. Joe loved the outdoors, especially fishing.

Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters and three sons-in-law, Debra and Rev. Donnie Wright, Jodi and Jimmy Tomberlin and Bobby Johnson all of Tifton; his grandchildren, Joe and Maudie Wright, Adam and Amy Wright, Melissa Roberson, Danette and Johnny Diakogiannis, Michelle Smith, Bobbie Johnson, Zach and Jessica Tomberlin, Hunter Tomberlin and Alli Tomberlin; nineteen great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Brushy Creek Church Cemetery Fund, 454 Brushy Creek Church Road, Ocilla, Ga. 31774.
