Linda Kay Daniel

October 5, 1947 — November 8, 2020

Hull, Georgia

Loving mother and loyal friend, Linda Kay Daniel, passed peacefully surrounded by her children.  Linda Kay was known for her love of and extensive pottery collection, some of which dated back to the 1960’s.  Each bowl had a story and origin and Linda Kay loved recalling their history during a delicious homemade meal.  Her greatest pottery treasury was a Cyprus blue water jug with a hand-painting of horses dancing.  This particular jug originated in Greece and was passed down from her doting Greek in-laws.  Linda Kay had a unique touch and language with animals.  On several occasions during her most painful of days, one kitty, Pickle, would lie exactly on the painful spot and purr for hours.  It was said her first pet, a miniature Chihuahua would sit comfortably on her shoulders as she drove around town at the age of sixteen.  Further to this, Linda Kay was charged as caregiver to the calves by bottle feeding them.

She was born into service work and a commitment to learning.  Always learning, Linda Kay served as a purchasing manager for Athens-Clarke county government for twenty-five years. Linda Kay had attended ABAC for two years and then graduated UGA with a bachelor of Science in child psychology all while raising two children, working a full-time executive job then working at Macy’s on the evenings and weekends.  Catering later became a successful venture all due to an excellent partner, Loretta Doster.  When not giggling, these two made fruit platters, cheese balls and other various things look like something straight from a castle.  No shortcuts were taken!

Linda Kay was known for her passion in growing flowers and vegetables from seed.  She in her own way coined NO GMOs at a very early start.  She was guided by her father’s teachings and The Farmer’s Almanac.

She thrived in writing grants, many of which were called into action!  In one instance, Linda Kay wrote a grant proposal for a center in which breast cancer patients, survivors and their families could come to for support, massages, guidance and yoga; all for free!  This center became realty and is called The Loren Smith Center in Athens, GA

Linda Kay is preceded in death by her beloved and cherished eldest daughter, Michelle.  Through an enormous amount of grief, she continued to nurture her two remaining children, Terrance and Daniele.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dowdy and Cordie Bell Daniel, her beloved sisters, Joyce and Elizabeth, her in-laws, Gus and Genelle Statiras, a nephew Chad and two nieces, Marilyn and Ann. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Melba Daniel.

Her nieces and nephews, Brenda, Robert, Nancy, Brian, Lisa, David and Heath were her joy.  They were always there to listen and offer a sweet word.  As a family we thank the Lord for giving us the special time we had with Mama and allowing her to pass peacefully.  We give all credit to Jesus Christ our Savior, the Lord sent to our family the gift of friends such as Lorette and James Doster, (Carmen, Chris,) Raymond and Shirley (Laurie, Lynn and Todd) However, one family took the unimaginable steps to allow Daniele to live with them while Terrance was healing from a horrific car accident.  Talmadge and Ramona Booth deserve special recognition along with their children Melody and Jason for sharing their bedtime milk and cookies.  They were always bringing a laugh at just the right time.

In memorial, Linda Kay’s motto could have been “NO SHORTCUTS WERE MADE!!
