Mrs. Marthalyn Abbott Carr, 87, of Tifton passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Michael Marchant officiating. A private family interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carr’s family will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Carr was born February 19, 1933 in Turner County to the late Carris Abbott and Rosalee Wheeler Abbott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Buren “J. B.” Carr to whom she was married sixty-five years at his death on October 11, 2015; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Doris Abbott. Mrs. Carr was a member of New River Baptist Church of Tifton for many years. She had retired from Ameris Bank after thirty-five years. Mrs. Carr had lived in Tift County for most of her life. Marthalyn was very active in her church where she taught Sunday School and worked in Vacation Bible School. She and her husband loved to travel especially to the mountains and to attend blue grass festivals. They also enjoyed fishing. Her family was the center of her life and she especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Carr was an excellent cook. She and Mr. J. B. operated Carr’s Grocery for many years.
Mrs. Carr is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Joan Carr of Tifton and Randy and Margaret Carr of Macon; grandchildren, Jill Carr, Katie and Jon Sneed, Amy Hagan, James Turnmire and Stephanie and Chad Alexander; great grandchildren Landon Sneed, Madison Sneed, Kailey Hagan, Haley Alexander and Luke Alexander; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Francis Abbott of Albany.
