Winfred "Wimp" Grady Jones

Mr. Winfred “Wimp” Grady Jones, age 84, of Tifton, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Tifton Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness.

His funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chula with Rev. Larry Layfield, and Rev. Aaron Frasier officiating.  The interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. at the church before the service.

Pallbearers will be Wilt Jones, Dr. Brad Lindsey, Chris Burdette, Josh Jones, Howard Duvall, Ed Kirkland and Alex Sumner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lynwood Denham, Ben Tyson, Luke Fletcher, Mike Fletcher, Leon and Gwen Pate, Ricky and Elaine Paulk, Mark McLean, Ray Griffin, Glynn Griffin, Buck Altman, Ras Smith, Russ Smith, Gloria Hobbs, Rhonda Wood and Lavonda Womack.

Mr. Winfred was born on October 26, 1937, to the late Grace Fletcher Jones and Grady Jones.  He was a life-long resident of Tift County and an active member of the Chula community.  After graduating from Tift County High School in 1955, where he was a member of the FFA, he became a self-employed farmer and continued farming until 2013 when he retired. During his life, he received many awards including the FFA Honorary State Farmer award and in 1958 he received the American Farmer Degree.  He became the First President of The Tift County Young Farmers Association in 1965.  Later in 1971, he was the First State President of the Georgia Young Farmers Association and his family was awarded The Georgia Outstanding Farm Family in 1972.    He also received the Outstanding Young Farmer award in Tifton, the State of Georgia and National Chairman Elect in 1975 for the Georgia Young Farmers Association.  From 1974-1978 he served as a Tift County Commissioner. In his later years after retiring from his farming career, he was a dedicated Tift County bailiff.  Mr. Jones was known throughout South Georgia as a kind, friendly and generous man who loved southern gospel music and who never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Ann Burdette Jones of Tifton, his daughter, Kim Jones of Macon, his three sisters and brother-in-law, Montine Skeel of Tucker, Audrey Beard, and Bonnie and Buddy Lindsey and his brother and sister-in-law Wilton and Judy Jones all of Tifton, along with many nieces and nephews.
