Winnie Ruth (Williams) Sheppard

Mrs. Winnie Ruth Williams Sheppard, 81, of Tifton passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Chuck Sheppard and Rev. Jim Duggan officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sheppard’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Sheppard was born August 3, 1938 in Tift County to the late Lacy Lee Williams and Bonnie Irish Cooper Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Ed” Dennis Sheppard, Sr., who died February 13, 2013; 3 infant sons and her sister, Helen McGill. Mrs. Sheppard was a member of First Baptist Church of Ty Ty since 1975. She was retired from Tift County Board of Education after twenty-six years. She was born in Tift County then lived in Tampa, Florida for twenty-five years, later moving back home to TyTy in 1971. Winnie loved her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the center of her life. She was a selfless and hard-working lady who was always willing to give to others. Even during her illness, she was more concerned with others than with herself. She loved to travel with her family and enjoyed the outdoors as a true nature lover. Winnie enjoyed tubing down the Ichetucknee River with her family.

Mrs. Sheppard is survived by her son Edward Dennis Sheppard, Jr., and his fiancé Donna King of Tifton; her daughters, Sandra Hanks and Susan Denise Williams of TyTy; her grandchildren, Brandon Hanks, Haley Hanks Vonier, Ashley Hanks, Justin Sheppard and his girlfriend Heather Baker, Heather and Lon Barfield, Austin Williams and Brent Williams; her great grandchildren, Seth Williams, Wyatt Williams, Daniel Vonier, Brayden Barfield, Landon Sheppard, Jordyn Baker and Madyson Baker; two sisters and brother-in-law, Doris and Jack Pope of Tampa, Florida and Edna Gnann of Middleburg, Florida; also loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
